An application for Tasmanian World War II hero Teddy Sheean to be awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross has been rejected.
The Defence Honours and Awards Appeals Tribunal examined the cases of 13 Australian servicemen from World Wars I and II and the Vietnam war.
However, the tribunal concluded that no VC or any other medal should be made to the soldiers and sailors, who were the subject of a year-long inquiry.
At the age of just 19, Sheean strapped himself to an anti-aircraft gun on the HMAS Armidale and fired on Japanese planes as the ship sank in the Timor Sea.
