Lonergan and Thurlow out to impress

FORMER Launceston duo Jesse Lonergan and Jackson Thurlow have been given another chance to impress in round 2 of the NAB Cup.

Lonergan has been named in the Gold Coast squad to take on North Melbourne at Townsville, while Thurlow has been named in Geelong's squad to face Adelaide at Simmonds Stadium.

Midfielder Lonergan, the 13th pick in the national draft, was impressive in his first outing last week, collecting eight touches and kicking 0.2 against Brisbane.

Thurlow, who went at pick 17, made his debut for the Cats against West Coast a fortnight ago, collecting three touches off half-back in the shortened game.

Lonergan's round 1 chances also seem bright, with the Suns tweeting they had selected their strongest side to face the Roos.

Other Tasmanians in action this weekend will be Clarence's Ian Callinan at Adelaide, Launceston's Tom Bellchambers at Essendon, Clarence's Jack Riewoldt at Richmond, Launceston's Tim Mohr at Greater Western Sydney, as well as Glenorchy's Aaron Cornelius and Clarence's Josh Green at Brisbane.

Prominent Tasmanians yet to play a game this preseason include  Grant Birchall at Hawthorn,  Nathan Grima at North Melbourne, Ryan Harwood at Brisbane and new Tiger Sam Lonergan.
