Group sprouts up

WHAT started as a Sustainable August  meeting in 2011 encouraging people to reduce their food energy, eat sustainably and live well has become a quarterly gathering of like-minded people.

Tamar NRM sustainable living working group chairwoman Sue Woinarski said that a seed swap day was part of that original meeting, but those present said there needed to be a seed-swap day for each of the four seasons.

Dr Woinarski said that the Launceston Environment Centre hosted yesterday's seed-swap day.

``We've had them every three months since then, taking in each of the different seasons' seeds, with up to a dozen people attending each one,'' Dr Woinarski said.

``But it's not just sitting around swapping seeds, we also swap stories, ideas and tips and you don't have to bring anything to be able to come.

``Many people let their garden produce go to seed and come in and swap varieties - I'm still picking up varieties I've never seen before.''
