$25,000 Lennon portrait unveiled

A $25,000 portrait of former premier Paul Lennon has been unveiled at Parliament House today.

The portrait, by Tasmanian artist Geoffrey Dyer, will take its place alongside past state leaders in the official Parliament collection.

Premier Lara Giddings officially unveiled the portrait, which she said captured the character of the former leader.

"The portrait gallery at Parliament House is an important historical record of our past leaders and this work is a striking addition to the collection," Ms Giddings said.

"Geoff Dyer has perfectly captured Paul's powerful political persona while providing an insight into his more relaxed life away from the pressure of politics and the public spotlight."

Mr Lennon's portrait will be hung on the landing outside the House of Assembly.

The work was commissioned through Despard Gallery in Salamanca and cost $25,000.
