Riverside man guilty of burglary, bashing

A Riverside man has been found guilty of breaking in to Achers Manor in Newnham  and bashing its owner.

Matthew Wayne Leslie broke in to the function centre to steal alcohol  in June 2011 after it had closed.

When confronted by licensee Allan Roark, Leslie hit him with a bottle and threw him to the ground.

He then punched the 51-year-old several times in the head and hit with a baton he had taken off  Mr Roark.

Today in the Launceston Supreme Court, a jury took less than two hours to unanimously find Leslie guilty of aggravated burglary and assault.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
