IF you have been caught on camera in Launceston this week, don't be too alarmed.
Chances are it was a traffic study box set up by the Launceston City Council as part of a major traffic survey.
The council and the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Environment have set up the cameras in busy areas in greater Launceston to track traffic flow, the number of vehicles and the type of vehicles.
Council general manger Robert Dobrzynski said that the study would help the council better judge the impact of future traffic management projects.
Mr Dobrzynski said that motorists that have been captured by the cameras are helping the process.
"So motorists need not be concerned if they see one of these boxes - we are into statistical data analysis, not law enforcement," he said.
