Woman to appear in court over man's death

Police forensic investigators have finished examining a George Town home where a woman is alleged to have murdered her boyfriend at the weekend.

Dimity Nancy Brown, 20, will face the Launceston Magistrates Court today charged with the murder of 21-year-old Aidan Andrew Dawson.

Mr Dawson died in the Launceston General Hospital after allegedly being stabbed twice in the stomach and once in the chest during an altercation early on Saturday morning.

The couple were in a de facto relationship for more than two years and had a child together.

George Town Mayor Roger Broomhall said it was a ``tragedy for all those involved''.

``It's a sad incident that's happened in our town once more,'' Cr Broomhall said yesterday.

Ms Brown was remanded in custody after an out-of-hours court appearance on Saturday night.

Inspector John Ward called on anyone who may have witnessed anything to contact police.

People with information can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
