Tasmania's housing industry continues to deteriorate, with housing approvals falling 4.6 per cent in trend terms in December - the ninth straight month of decline, according to official figures.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics figures released this morning show Tasmania to be worst performing state in the country in trend terms.
NSW (1.5 per cent), South Australia (1.4 per cent), the ACT (22.5) and the Northern Territory (3.9 per cent) all recorded increases, while Victoria (-1.0) and Queensland (-0.4) recorded falls in trend terms.
Nationally, the number of dwellings approved fell 4.4 per cent in December last year in seasonally adjusted terms after jumping 3.4 per cent in November 2012.
In seasonally adjusted terms, Tasmania's dwelling approvals plummeted 21.8 per cent, while Victoria (-12.3 per cent) and New South Wales (-1.3 per cent) were the only other states to record a decline.
Queensland (7.9 per cent), South Australia (1.7 per cent) and Western Australia (1.3 per cent) all increased in seasonally adjusted terms.
The value of total building approvals fell 1.9 per cent in December nationally in seasonally adjusted terms - the third consecutive fall.
