One of the most sparkling entries at the Tasmanian Truck Show yesterday at Quercus Park, Carrick, was the Victoria Bitter green 1956 Ford F600 truck belonging to Ewan Stephens.
Mr Stephens is the production manager at the R. Stephens Tasmanian Honey company at Mole Creek but that truck has a link to earlier days.
He said the truck was originally driven by his grandfather and then his father carrying honey and beehives from the West Coast.
But Mr Stephens said the truck fell into disrepair, so he spent 2-1/2 years restoring it.
He said he chose the colour of a Victoria Bitter can for the paintwork because he liked the colour, but he liked the truck mostly because it reminded him of his boyhood and being driven in that truck.
Mr Stephens said the truck, with a V8 motor, only developed 42 horsepower but in its day pulled loads on a trailer that are now carried by trucks with 500 horsepower.
The show was presented by the Lions Club of Deloraine and spokesman Bryan Watson said about 90 trucks took part. He said it was an opportunity for truckers to display their rigs, socialise and look at the latest models.
