Rogowska defends title

TWO Aussies topped the table at the Burnie International Tennis Tournament finals last night.

Victorian Olivia Rogowska fended off international players and a keen opponent to win the women's title.

The defending champion won 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 against Monique Adamczak, of New South Wales.

Adamczak played what tournament director Mark Handley described as one of the best qualifying finals ever seen in Burnie to find herself in the final.

She clawed back eight match points in a tie-breaker against Anett Kontaveit.

"It was fantastic tennis and fantastic tennis for the crowd to watch," Handley said.

Handley said the tournament overcame a hectic start to the week, which saw rain delays push players into daylight games, to find themselves on schedule for night finals yesterday.

"We had 110 competitors across the competition and being an international event we had a lot of players from across the globe," he said.

"It was good to see the girls fend off the international invasion for an all-Australian women's final."

The women's pro tour now moves to Launceston where qualifying begins today.

In the men's final last night Brisbane's John Millman defeated Frenchman Stephane Robert 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.

Millman continued his great form from the January summer circuit and he needed all of his best form to oust Robert, who last week won the Launceston AMT final.
