This year the Tasmanian Parliament will sit for 42 days to deal with legislation tackling same- sex marriage, anti-discrimination and dying with dignity.

The MLCs yesterday refrained from openly commenting on how they would vote.

Bills that failed to get through, such as same-sex marriage, will be back in the Legislative Council, although it appears MLCs haven't shifted position.

The Legislative Council will also continue its inquiry into the forestry legislation.

Same-sex marriage: The more I think about it, the more I see it as a discrimination issue.

Dying with dignity: It is going to be a tricky one. There is such compelling evidence from both sides.

Anti-discrimination: I am not in favour of discrimination at any level but it depends on how well structured the legislation is and what the government is trying to achieve.

Forestry: The way forward for the industry is through the TFA.

Same-sex marriage: At the moment I haven't heard anything at this time that has convinced me to vote otherwise (against), but we have a few more months.

Forestry/dying with dignity/anti- discrimination: I don't intend to lock myself into an opinion with any of them because there are constant changes occurring.

•Murchison MLC Ruth Forrest

Same-sex marriage: I would like to bring it back in again.

Dying with dignity: I wasn't in support of that last time, but I understand that there is a discussion paper coming out shortly, until we see that I can't comment.

Anti-discrimination: I have some concerns with some of the aspects of the legislation, not so much the legislation, but the amendments.

Forestry: Broadly I am in support of the agreement, the legislation does need amending in some areas.

Same-sex marriage: I voted against (and) I won't be changing my view. We've been and done that. It is a federal matter in my view.

Dying with dignity: I have no idea until we see the legislation. You can't pre-empt that.

Anti-discrimination: These things can be complex legislation, and who knows. They have been gnashing this out at a federal level, let alone getting little Tasmania to it.

Forestry: No comment.

Same-sex marriage: It shouldn't come up again, that matter was dealt with last year and it is too soon to bring it up again now. There are other issues that are far more important that need to be dealt with.

Dying with dignity: I have no doubt that it will be brought forward and that is regrettable.

Anti-discrimination: Currently we are being lobbied by people from both sides.

Forestry: The committee is still presenting evidence. I want to hear the rest of that evidence and I will make a determination at the end of that.
