FIFTY detainees aged 15-18 years old will arrive at Pontville detention centre today, joining 85 other unaccompanied minors who arrived at the centre yesterday.
Brighton Mayor Tony Foster said he was informed earlier this month that the centre would be used to house some unaccompanied minors.
``It is not ideal to have children in detention, but if they have to be detained anywhere I couldn't think of a better place than here,'' Cr Foster said.
The new arrivals will be housed in a different part of the centre than the 44 single adult males already in residence.
Cr Foster said the children would receive tutoring on site but would not attend local schools.
He said minors could be housed at the centre for up to 90 days.
