Crowds roll up to Powercruise40

BURNING rubber attracted crowds in their thousands to Symmons Plains this weekend to inhale the excitement of Powercruise40.

The country's peak rolling car show attracted petrol-heads from across the state in a turnout that pleased event spokesman Gareth Ball.

``It was just an excellent weekend,'' Ball said, who estimated a crowd of about 3000 for the event's two days.

``We had 60 cars entered in our burnout competition, which is three times as many as last year.

``We christened the new burnout pad and it went down really, really well.

``More than 350 cars entered and the weather [yesterday] was just perfect once the rain cleared, and we had really, really strong crowds on Saturday  too.

``All the finals were raced and won, we had no incidents on the track and everyone went home just as they arrived _ which is a good thing.''

Souped-up cars skidded around the track, demonstrating drifting, powerskids and off-street racing.

An hour of power event, a show 'n' shine and a Miss Powercruise competition added to the weekend.

A highlight of the event was the appearance by Summernats burnout masters Peter Grmusa and Michael ``Gup'' Gilbert.
