RISING talent Devonport junior triathlete Fraser Lyon was outstanding in winning his maiden open event in race 2 of the state series at the Henley on Mersey festival yesterday at Latrobe.
Ulverstone's Brady Butcher crossed the line in second place with Paul Bidgood third. Lyon also took out the junior division from Andrew Watson, of Devonport, and Gabe Dennison, of Burnie.
Bidgood was also the first veteran male across the line from Launceston's Anthony Manshanden and Devonport's Craig Doherty.
The women's event was a race between two Launceston girls with Sarah Ellis taking out the race from Melissa Clark and Alex Spillane in third.
Spillane was also the first junior female.
Launceston's Narelle Wynwood was the first veteran female to complete the course.
Racing started early with the Trystars events for 7 to 13-year-olds followed by a super sprint novice race with Jesse Purton, of Turners Beach, taking out the event.
Race 3 of the Tasmanian triathlon series will be at Seven Mile Beach on February 3,
followed by the Coles Bay triathlon on February 16 and finishing in Devonport on February 23.
