Touring
WHO: Sonic Animation.
WHEN & WHERE: Friday at the Republic Bar in Hobart from 10pm, and at Tonic Bar at Launceston's Country Club Tasmania on Saturday from 8.30pm.
TICKETS: For the Republic Bar, online at moshtix.com.au or at the door - about $15. For Tonic Bar, buy them online at tixtas.com.au for $19.50 or on the door for $24.50.
When Sonic Animation (think Theophilus Thistler, I'm A DJ) called it quits in 2005, most people thought it was the end. WRONG! Sonic Animation returned to the Australian music scene in 2011 and have not looked back. The dance act is heading south this weekend - way south - to play two Tassie gigs. Cool.
Launceston
WHAT: Fresh Comedy with Claire Hooper.
WHEN & WHERE: Tomorrow from 8.30pm at Fresh On Charles, Launceston.
COST: $15 on the door.
Good News Week funny lady Claire Hooper is in the state to share the LOLs. She'll be backed up by a trio of men standing in her shadow - Stewart Bell, Kevin O'Flaherty and Michael Burgess. And then, afterwards, there's going to be some delightful music provided by Ackbar's Snackbar. How very jolly.
WHAT: Summer Break outdoor festival.
WHEN & WHERE: Sunday from 3pm at the Royal Park rugby field, Launceston.
TICKETS: Grab `em online at moshtix.com.au or from Mojo Music in Launceston for about $30. There will also be a limited number available on the door.
Party on, dudes, with the likes of M-Phazes, Airwolf, Dizz1 and Alta, to name but a few. There's sangria, mini tacos and it's the Australia Day long weekend so there's no need to worry about Monday morning.
WHAT: Australia Day Eve fund-raising gig.
WHEN & WHERE: Tomorrow from 8pm at The Pizza Pub, Launceston.
COST: $5 on the door with all profits to go to the RSPCA.
Friend of the furry animal? Help give them a paw up with this fund-raising gig-a-roo, featuring Guthrie, Woof Woof, Bennylava, Mount Horror and Jimi Steele solo. All of the door proceeds will be donated to the RSPCA to assist animals affected by the recent Tasmanian bushfires. The Pizza Pub will also be donating half of profits from pizzas sold on the night to the appeal.
Hobart
WHAT: Revive and Rebuild - a fund-raiser for victims of the Tasmanian bushfires.
WHEN & WHERE: At the Brisbane Hotel, Hobart, on Saturday from 11.30am.
COST: $10 on the door with all profits to go to the Red Cross Tasmania bushfire appeal.
The Brisbane Hotel is putting on a massive Australia Day - and by massive, I mean 29 acts worth of massive. Headliners include The Sin and Tonics, Truckshow and Gape and all of the artists playing are donating their time. So the least you could do is head along.
WHO: The Barons of Tang and The Lawless Quartet.
WHEN & WHERE: Tomorrow night at The Grand Poobah, Hobart.
Melbourne's gypsy nomads will meet Tassie's in an explosion of gypsy-things. Clutching at straws? Not sure of quite who you're going to see? Visit www.thebaronsoftang.com and www.facebook.com/thelawlessquartet and wrap your ears around it.
