FIREFIGHTERS were still extinguishing hot spots in the Forcett and Lake Repulse fires in the South yesterday, as the fires continued to burn.
The fire danger rating for the Lake Repulse fire yesterday afternoon was high, though moderate conditions prevailed. The fire, north-west of New Norfolk, has burned 11,600 hectares.
The Forcett fire, south of Hobart, has burned about 25,500 hectares from Forcett and into the Tasman Peninsula. The fire danger rating for this fire is low- moderate.
Both fires are not fully controlled but are not threatening property.
In the North-West, the Montumana fire, near the Rocky Cape National Park, has burnt 3400 hectares and is contained but still burning. Firefighters did backburning yesterday.
Fires were also burning near Mathinna and Bridport in the North. The fires were being patrolled yesterday afternoon and none were considered serious enough to have a threat level.
