Victory for Beauty Point, but it doesn't come easily

BEAUTY POINT continued its winning run but was made to fight hard for victory, sneaking home by six runs in a thriller against Diggers in TCL A-grade at Beauty Point yesterday.

The home side made 208 batting first and held on to dismiss Diggers for 202 in reply in the final over.

Rob Eltringham batted well to top the runs list for Beauty Point with 85, including 10 fours and two sixes.

Diggers batted well and shared the runs in their chase with captain-coach Brent Kettle top-scoring with 40, Mark Knowles making 35 and Dave Tulloch 29.

Needing about 10 to win off the final over with the last men in, they could not achieve it with No.th10 batsman Andrew Bassett caught off the second last ball.

Mark Sowden picked up 3-22 with the ball for Diggers and Turner and Vaughn Rose took two each for Beauty Point.

TREVALLYN remained undefeated on top of the ladder with a 59-run victory over Legana at Trevallyn.

Legana won the toss and put the home side in to bat and it made 8-249, with Nathan Balym top-scoring with 76 and Matty Cocker making 48.

Legana had a disastrous start to its run chase, slumping to 3-9 and continuing to lose middle-order wickets to be 7-87. 

Brett Martin continued his good form with the ball taking 3-31 for Trevallyn.

HADSPEN had a comfortable six-wicket victory over ACL in its game at Hadspen.

ACL won the toss and batted and was dismissed for 170  off 30 overs.

Hadspen knocked off the required runs in 31.2 overs, for the loss of four wickets, finishing at 4-172.
