``It's by far one of the biggest wins of my career,'' he said on the festival's website.
``It shows me that I can follow in the footsteps of athletes like Emma Snowsill and one day make it to the Olympics.
Birtwhistle was joined on the podium by silver medallist and fellow teammate Luke Willian (55:20) and Great Britains Marc Austin (55:33) who took home bronze.
Birsthistle's success follows on from Launceston cyclist Lauren Perry, who was part of the Australian Gold team that won the the women's 3000m team pursuit over Australia Green on Thursday.
