LAUNCESTON Tornadoes coach Peta Sinclair will be in Launceston on Sunday, casting her expert eye over the local talent available to the club.
Sinclair has called an open trial, inviting players who have been involved in the Tornadoes, the state TIS program, the North- West senior coastal competition or SEABL, to attend.
It will be held at the University of Tasmania's Launceston campus gym from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.
A former player with the Tornadoes, Sinclair has extensive experience both as a player and coach, and is currently assistant coach of WNBL side Townsville Fire.
The Launceston Tornadoes see Sinclair's appointment as adding to the club' rebuilding efforts.
"I'm looking to stay at least a couple of seasons," she said.
" I want to start building a culture to get the club to where it has been before.
"It's a wonderful opportunity that I want to put a lot of time and effort into."
Tornadoes chairman Janie Finlay said she believed Sinclair would be an asset to the club and to the Launceston basketball community, continuing to build a pathway of opportunity for girls to play at the highest level of basketball in Australia.
"With Peta's coaching expertise and passion for the game, we look forward to having a very competitive team for the 2013 season," Finlay said.
The Tornadoes are also negotiating with import players to complement local talent.
