The male Australian fur seal found on Launceston's Royal Park boat ramp on Tuesday, has died.
The seal, which died overnight on Tuesday, attracted attention from passers-by and he was expected to move on after a rest at the end of the mating season in Bass Strait.
Launceston City Council workers brought in heavy lifting equipment to remove the body yesterday morning.
A Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment spokeswoman confirmed the death yesterday.
She said an autopsy would be carried out by department veterinary pathologists to determine the cause of death.
