IT MAY be summer holidays but some students are already back in class.
The University of Tasmania Creative Arts Summer School is in full swing with a range of courses in visual art, design and theatre.
Under the guidance of ceramics tutor Sonja Brough in the class Ceramics: Ideas from the Body, students have spent time examining different parts of the body and taking plaster casts of faces, hands and breasts.
Florence Luka, who is originally from South Sudan, said that when she was little she played with clay while watching her grandmother make pots dried over a wood fire.
"Here we are using a kiln, which is much easier," she said.
"I think she would be proud to know I'm having a go at making a clay pot."
Sisi Zhao said the class had been a relaxing and interesting pastime in the holidays.
