The 6000-seat, two-tiered grandstand has been rebranded the RACT stand, after the collapse of timber company Gunns forced the Launceston City Council to seek a new sponsor.
Yesterday Mayor Albert van Zetten and RACT chief executive Harvey Lennon unveiled the stand's new branding and revealed details of the four-year sponsorship deal for Aurora Stadium.
While tight-lipped on the financial value of the deal, Mr Lennon said it was a doubling of the company's commitment to the stadium, with the RACT already laying claim to Railway Workers' Hill.
"It is a significant sponsorship to us, and we believe that it's worthwhile to support a very iconic stadium and an iconic asset for Northern Tasmania," Mr Lennon said.
Alderman van Zetten said the sponsorship was great news for Launceston ratepayers and Tasmanians.
"To run a stadium of this standard - and it is one of the best standards for AFL football in Australia - we need to support it for locals and we need sponsorship to help us to run that," Alderman van Zetten said.
