Hurricanes make three changes

THE Hobart Hurricanes have made three changes to its squad for tomorrow night's must win game against Brisbane Heat at Bellerive Oval.

Test opener Ed Cowan, former New South Wales spinner Mark Higgs and paceman Michael Hogan replace George Bailey and Xavier Doherty, who are on international duty, and the injured Scott Styris.

The hamstring of the New Zealand all-rounder will also keep him out of the Hurricanes' Big Bash League semi-final clash, if they qualify.

The Canes need to defeat the Heat to qualify for the knock-out stage of the Big Bash League.

Wicketkeeper Tim Paine will captain in Bailey's absence.

The game will double as a fund-raiser for the Tasmanian Bushfire Relief Appeal.

The Hurricanes launched an online auction this morning to help raise funds for those affected by the fires.

“It would also be fantastic to see a packed Blundstone Arena on Saturday night and patrons digging deep and donating when the tins come around.''

The Brisbane Heat will contribute five signed playing shirts and an autographed bat to Cricket Tasmania’s Bushfire Appeal that will begin tomorrow with a live online auction through the Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania websites.

HOBART: Tim Paine (c), Ricky Ponting (vc), Travis Birt, Aiden Blizzard, Doug Bollinger, Ed Cowan, Evan Gulbis, Mark Higgs, Michael Hogan, Jason Krejza, Ben Laughlin, Owais Shah, Jon Wells.
