Free flights for mainland help

FREE flights will be provided to mainland workers and volunteers assisting with Tasmania's recovery from bushfires.

Qantas Group chief executive officer Alan Joyce said his staff wanted to help, and the company would provide free flights to Red Cross workers and volunteers.

``Qantas and Jetstar will fly Red Cross staff and volunteers from mainland capital cities to Tasmania over the next month,'' Mr Joyce said.

``We are on stand-by to provide further assistance to the Tasmanian Government including getting supplies into affected areas if it's required.''

Fees will also be waived for anyone who is travelling to and from Tasmania and needs to change flights due to the fires.

Qantas has made a $100,000 donation to the Red Cross Tasmanian Bushfires Appeal.

Premier Lara Giddings welcomed the support.

``As always, the Australian community has mobilised quickly to provide support to those who need it,'' Ms Giddings said.

``I'd like to particularly note the support of Qantas for both their cash contribution and transport support for the Red Cross relief efforts.''
