A VEGETATION fire that on Monday caused the closure of Barton Road near Mount Joy Road, was yesterday contained and the road re-opened.
Fire scene safety officer Chris Cashion, of Cressy brigade, said the fire started close to Barton Road and burned through about 100 hectares of paddocks.
The cause of the fire was yesterday undetermined.
Mr Cashion said that about six crews were to remain until about 9pm yesterday, with more crews on site again this morning, ``just keeping watch''.
``The number of crews all depends on the weather and what flare-ups there are,'' he said.
Mr Cashion said that crews used skidders, an excavator, bulldozer and grader to build containment lines and create good boundaries, down to bare dirt, in case of any wind changes and flare-ups.
He said that conditions were better yesterday afternoon than they had been in the morning.
``But the fire had certainly died down overnight compared with how it was on Monday _ it was fairly going at that stage and kept 12 crews busy,'' Mr Cashion said.
