Forcett fire downgraded

4.10PM UPDATE: A large bushfire between Forcett and the Tasman Peninsula has been downgraded to watch and act.

The Tasmania Fire Service has asked residents of the the Kellevie, Bream Creek, Eaglehawk Neck, Pirates Bay, Doo Town, Old Jetty Road and Blowhole Road areas to remain vigilant of changing weather conditions.

2.30PM UPDATE: The Southern Forcett bushfire has again been upgraded to an emergency warning, with the Tasmania Fire Service asking residents of Kellevie and Bream Creek areas, and all surrounding areas east of Bream Creek, to relocate to a nearby safer place now.

Kellevie residents are asked to head north to Orford via Wielangta Road, while esidents of the Bream Creek area are to relocate to Marion Beach via Marion Bay Road.

Reported Road Closures: Arthur Highway from Old Forcett Road to Nubeena Road, Taranna. Fulham Road, from Primrose Sands Road to Gellibrand Street, Dunalley. Sugarloaf Road from Arthur Highway to Carlton River Road, Kellevie Road. 

EARLIER: The fire is now affecting Eaglehawk Neck, Pirates Bay, Doo Town, Old Jetty Road and Blowhole Road.

 People in this area need to evacuate now to their Nearby Safer Place either Pirates Bay boat ramp or Eaglehawk Neck Beach.

This bushfire is currently not controlled.

Reported Road Closures:Arthur Highway from the junction of Old Forcett Road to the junction of Arthur Highway/Nubeena Road, Taranna. Fulham Road, from the junction of Primrose Sands Road to Gellibrand Street, Dunalley. Sugarloaf Road is closed from Arthur Highway through to the junction with Carlton River Road.

The Tasmanian Fire Service has urged people in the area to activate their bushfire plans now.

It is likely to be too late to leave the area. If your home is well constructed, prepared and actively defended, it may provide shelter.

If you don't have a plan or your plan is to leave  leave now, only if the path is clear.

This may include a neighbouring property or other cleared area close by that is not at risk from fire.

There is a community fire refuge at the Tasman Civic Centre, 21 Clarke St, Nubeena.

The Forcett fire is the largest Tasmanian bushfire next to population centres. 

This fire has cut off access to the Tasman peninsula since last week and destroyed about 85 properties since Thursday.
