Thieves target St Giles brick wall

THIEVES have put a downer on the Christmas break by stealing an entire wall from the Newstead- based disability services provider St Giles.

St Giles maintenance manager Greg Reid said yesterday the 15-metre retaining wall was supplied and erected by volunteers at the centre at the corner of Amy and McKellar roads.

Mr Reid said about three tonnes of grey concrete blocks were removed from the retaining wall in the main car park, leaving only a single row of blocks.

He said he discovered the theft, which has been reported to police, on New Year's Eve.

"In 35 years I've seen nothing like this, they have no conscience and plenty of gall," he said.

"They would have needed a truck to remove the concrete blocks and there was nothing to hide behind - they were out in the open."

Anyone with information can contact police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
