THE Tamar Yacht Club will be well represented at several national sailing events to be held in Tasmania during the next few weeks.
About 20 sailors, aged eight to 18, will take part in three regattas, including the Australian laser youth nationals and International Optimist Australian and Open Championships in Sandy Bay.
A record 183 entrants from Australia and across the world, including New Zealand, Singapore, Italy and the UK, will compete in the youth laser competition from January 6.
A handful will also participate in the 44th NS14 national championships at the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club, at Beauty Point, aboard a four-metre yacht.
Tamar Yacht Club small boat sailing squadron chairman Richard Grant said it was great to see the children's hard work earn them selection.
``Most of them have been at the club for four or five years coming through our junior programs,'' Grant said.
``The kids have had an absolutely enormous amount of training in the past six months, both in Launceston and Sandy Bay as well.
``We have twice as many as we normally have going to the nationals, which is fantastic.''
