The sleek centre sits in the Launceston Post Office building in Cameron Street, newly occupied by Australia Post.
The new look encompasses touch screens Leg 1?and free Wi-Fi, to better match how more tourists want their information, Launceston City Council tourism manager Eamonn Seddon said. ``It's the way of the future, the move to a digital platform is key in how information will be given to visitors,'' he said.
The opening coincides with the launch of the Start Something Special in Launceston phone app and Leg 2?social media campaign Baz and Lonnie.
Baz Freedman, who the council has engaged to review Launceston through his social media sites, called the new centre a ``wow space''.
Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said what was true for real estate went for tourism centres.
``It's all about location location location,'' he said.
