The pair not only received a trophy, but an invitation to play in next year's South African sister championship.
Competition founder Eric Roberts said 40 pairs entered this year's competition, held at Country Club Tasmania.
Mr Roberts said they had entrants from across the country, as well as one pair from Zambia, in Southern Africa.
The Marriott team reportedly caused an upset on the day, trumping the competition's two favourites.
``It was surprising, there was a local team we had here who we thought would have won quite easily but they just faltered down the track, it wasn't to be,'' Mr Roberts said.
``On the other hand, we have some people from New South Wales in the same situation. They've always finished second or third . . . whether it be pressure or whatever, who knows?''
This year's competition was the seventh annual event to be held at the grounds and is continuing to grow, according to Mr Roberts.
``I'm finding now a lot of people are coming every second year,'' he said.
``Overall it's encouraging, I think at this point of time it's just a matter of how big I want it to go.''
