It was revealed yesterday that the two primary schools may join Brooks High School to stave off a possible future forced closure by the state government.
The schools submitted an expression of interest to the government as part of the $3.5 million School Transition Fund, which closed last week.
So far nine schools have been identified as being part of the process of considering their options as to whether to close, amalgamate or reconfigure.
Mayfield Primary School principal Vicki Mackrill said the two primary schools would send out a letter to all parents by tomorrow about the meeting next week.
She said separate meetings would be held at both schools to inform parents of the options and gauge interest.
Ms Mackrill said no parents had approached her about the issue yesterday.
``Talks like this have been going on for years, so it's nothing too new or would be too much of a surprise to parents around here,'' she said.
Tasmanian State School Parents and Friends president Jenny Eddington echoed this point and said previous talks about a merger between Mowbray, Rocherlea and Mayfield schools had failed but it might be different this time.
A spokeswoman from the department said it was too early to say how much it would cost to amalgamate and how much the government might save.
