A man and a woman have been charged over the death of Kristi McDougall after a torso believed to be that of the Sydney mother was found in western Sydney bushland last week.
The arrests follow months of anguish for the 31-year-old’s family, who launched several public appeals seeking help to solve her disappearance.
Ms McDougall, mother to a two-year-old son, was last seen by friends in Park Road, Homebush, about 1pm on June 19 and was reported missing on June 21.
Her dark green Ford Falcon was found parked in a No Stopping zone in Jackson Street, Ermington, near the intersection of Spurway Street, the following evening.
Ms McDougall, of Carlingford, had said she was meeting someone at Blacktown, in Sydney's west. It is now believed she was using drugs.
A torso - believed to be Ms McDougall's - was found by a self-professed psychic in Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside last week after members of the public launched a search for missing Mt Druitt child Kiesha Abrahams.
Following the gruesome find, police launched further appeals to solve Ms McDougall's death, with officers continuing to search Doonside bushland this week.
The breakthrough came last night after Strike Force Ashbridge detectives - set up to solve Ms McDougall’s murder - arrested a 47-year-old Dundas man and charged him with her murder.
A 42-year-old woman was charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.
The pair were both refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court today.
