Whitworth aiming for UK career

14 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
QUEENSLAND'S Jade Whitworth wants to try her hand as a professional darts player in the UK in the future.

The 15-year-old, who was introduced to the sport by watching her mum play, has high hopes for success at the Australian junior championships being played in Launceston.

A year 11 student at Calamvale Community College in Brisbane, Whitworth has been playing darts for three or four years and is taking part in her first national titles.

``I went to Ireland in September as part of the Australian team for a world cup event and it was a great experience,'' she said.

``I met so many wonderful people and made so many new friends.

``The competition was hard but worth it - and I won our only medal a bronze in the singles.''

Whitworth said Queensland had taken out the boys and girls youth pairs so far at the championships and she was aiming to win a gold medal in the girls' singles and mixed doubles.

``If I have enough points worked up through the Queensland Darts Association by the time I turn 18 I'll go to England and play some darts over there,'' she said.
