Developer eyes plans for city's retail growth

09 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
THE company behind the Roberts building development says he knows of several more companies interested in setting up shop in Launceston.

Tipalea Partners managing director Scott Spanton did not name the companies but said they were national retailers.

The Sydney-based developer this week visited the former Roberts site on William Street to check on the $6-million project.

Super Cheap Auto, Ray's Outdoors and Beacon Lighting will take up leases once that site is finished in May, plus a smaller tenancy yet to be filled.

Tipalea has previously worked in Launceston, developing a Kings Meadows site for One Steel several years ago.

The company is now looking for another 10,000 square metres of floor space in Launceston on behalf of commercial clients.

''They're national retailers that aren't here at the moment,'' Mr Spanton said.

''We'd like to do a lot more in Launceston, this will be over too quickly.''
