HOBART historic motorcycle racer Murray Seabrook was the most successful of the Tasmanian riders to contest the annual Island Classic at Phillip Island at the weekend.
Seabrook dominated the Post Classic 250cc title for machines built between 1963 and 1972 with a clean sweep of two wins on Saturday and Sunday in the combined 1963-72 and 1973-82 race, finishing as high as sixth overall in the 25-rider field and beating many of the more modern machines across the line.
Shearwater's Mick Damon won the 500cc Forgotten Era title on Sunday, for machines built between 1973 and 1982, adding a further second place and a win to the second and third places he scored on Saturday.
Launceston's Michael Dobson fared well in the Forgotten Era 250cc class (1973-82), claiming second place overall behind Steve Ward, of New South Wales.
Dobson won one of Saturday's races and finished second to Ward in the other.
He finished behind winner Ward in each of Sunday's two races and finished on 91 points to Ward's 97.
Launceston's Mark Holman had an up and down weekend, with his two mid-field finishes on Saturday earning him 25 points and 15th place in the final standing before crashing out on Sunday and scoring no more points.
Riverside's Malcolm Campbell rode in the feature event, the International Challenge, and finished fifth overall after an event-long duel with Robbie Phillis saw him renew the fierce rivalry the pair enjoyed in the late 1980s and early 1990s in Australian superbike events.
Campbell said that competition was so intense, a missed gear change in Sunday's final race cost him two places in that race and a podium finish overall.
