AFTER almost a month off while V8 super sedans took centre stage, sprintcars will blast back into action at Carrick Speedway tomorrow night.
Although there was little sprintcar racing in Tasmania in recent weeks, several of the state's top drivers have been competing at the highest level interstate.
Launceston's Jamie Bricknell is back fresh from his second consecutive top 10 placing in the Australian sprintcar championships and is keen to put his acquired knowledge to good use on his home track.
Forest driver Mark House also attended the national championship in Adelaide and, after a number of second placings at home in recent months, he is fired up with new-found experience to break the ice with a debut win.
Launceston teenager Callum Zizek also raced in Adelaide in what would have been a great learning experience.
Other contenders will include former state champions Tim Hutchins, of Sassafras, and Launceston's Kurt Luttrell, with Devonport rookie Curt Smith, who has already tasted success at Carrick this season, keen to prove it was anything but a fluke.
Tomorrow night's programme will also include two state championships for the junior sedan and formula 500 divisions.
The F500 title has attracted 20 entries, with former two-times champion Matthew Redpath, of Sassafras, the driver to beat after a number of strong victories already this season.
His teammate Marcus Kelly, of Devonport, will be his biggest danger, while former champion Kane Cruse, of Launceston, Smithton's Nick Kingston and Devonport's Dale Peck are also definite podium chances.
The Tasmanian junior sedan championship has attracted a bumper field of 28 entries from three states and will be decided over nine heats and a 30-lap final.
Australian championship runner-up Corey Lincoln, of Victoria, will test the depth of the local fields, while fellow Victorian brothers Dion and Chris Bellman have raced with success in Tasmania previously and will also make their presence felt, as will Queensland brother and sister Brody Fraser-McGee and Maddi McGee, having also raced at Carrick previously.
Hobart youngster Josh Smith has been in brilliant form this season and will lead a strong local contingent, with Hobart's Nathan Russell, Launceston driver Brodie Piper and Mole Creek's Josh Stephens also showing plenty of pace this summer and not without their chances in the State title.
Tomorrow's support programme will include racing for lightning sprints and Tassie sixes, with gates open at 3pm and racing from 6pm.
