The prestigious Doris Reid women's knock-out singles will be played at the North Launceston Bowls Club tomorrow and Wednesday.

Reid was state president for 29 years, an Australian president and a Tasmanian and Australian representative.

Forty players have entered, with the first round beginning from 9am and the bye round from 11am.

Twelve Bowls North clubs will be represented, with East Launceston and Invermay having the largest number of players.

Players from all divisions have nominated for the competition.

It began in 1974, with former Launceston and North Launceston player Kate Platzbecker its first winner.

Previous winners have included Invermay and Australian representative Rebecca Quail, Longford's Lorraine Ogden and former Kings Meadows and now Invermay player Nicole Smith.
