Northern pairs battle heats up

SLICK greens greeted players in the Mitsubishi Bowls Northern Men's Pairs Championship sectional play at Kings Meadows and North Launceston yesterday.

North Launceston hosted section one to four with the teams playing three games of 15 ends with points and shots up to count.

Close scores dominated the results as the teams battled for ascendancy and the right to play on.

Fred McKay and Reese McDougal took out section 1 with three wins.

Section 2 winners were Robin Webb and Paul West with two wins and a two-shot advantage.

Will and Sam Springer had two wins and a draw to advance to the semi-final in section 3.

David Quarrel and Tullah Redman got home with three wins in section 4.

Three sections took to the greens at Kings Meadows with Leon Allen and Luke Patterson winning section 5.

Peter Zoon and Nathan Chugg won all three games in their section to advance, Chris Dudman and Donohue were the last to qualify in section 7.

Round two and the semi-final will be played at North Launceston on Sunday, January 29.

The morning session will see McKay and Dudman on rink 1, West and Redman on rink 2, and Springer and Patterson on rink 3 to meet Zoon in the first semi-final to be played in the afternoon.
