Launceston rolls into four

29 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
ROUND 13 of women's pennant played on Tuesday saw Launceston's DIVISION 1 team move back into the four, winning on two for 10 by 22 overall at North.

Judy Gurr, Madge Strochnetter, Bev Miller and Margaret Carrick held on ensuring North of two much-needed points.

Bev Huett's rink's ninth success blocked Cressy's outright in its back-to-back win at Deloraine and, with all rinks scoring 20 or so, East took the clean-sweep at Longford.

Kings Meadows notched up its 13th successive win, defeating Trevallyn for 12, and Invermay beat Exeter on two by 11 overall to remain in second spot.

In DIVISION 2, West surprised to defeat Kings Meadows Red and move into fifth spot while Scottsdale's Jean Claridge, Rosanne Summers, Nerina Hansell and Bev Larke carried their team through for eight points at East.

East won on two but could not cover the third. Westbury now sits a game clear in third position courtesy of its 10-pointer against George Town, and North could not replicate last week's success, losing on all rinks to ladder-leader Bridport.

After five straight losses, Deloraine got among the winners, taking nine points on one and a shared rink from Kings Meadows Green.

Green's Val Eastburn, Kath Harris, Faye Brown and Jean Penfold's plus 11 helped block the outright.

In DIVISION 3, four outrights meant there were no changes to the top six.

West, Ravenswood, Exeter and Launceston took the full quota over Midlands, Longford, Invermay and George Town respectively.

Exeter had consecutive wins - the other three made up for round-12 losses.

Beauty Point would be rapt to end its 10-game losing streak with a one rink plus 2 against Riverside.

Playing the game of their lives, Sharon Harwood, Sue Timmers, Elaine Lewis and Yvonne Newman's 12 shots up assured Beauty point of its long-awaited win.

In DIVISION 4, Scottsdale's Nola Cassidy, Gail Ryan, Joyce Stagg and Betty Davey held on for two points in their team's two-rink loss to Cressy, and Longford's three rinks were too good for Bridport.

North won on two against George Town and Chris Nichols, Margie Stewart, Margaret Powick, and Fran Stanley's rink gave Launceston Blue two points at Lilydale.

Exeter's four-game losing streak ended with it taking the maximum at Trevallyn, and Kings Meadows grabbed 12 points via Deloraine's forfeit.
