Exeter must pick up for chance in finals

31 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
ROUND 14 of women's pennant continues on Thursday.

Launceston's division 1 hosts Exeter. After some patchy last few rounds Exeter is overdue for wins.

Finals berths are up for grabs for both teams and success here is a step closer to that goal.

Longford sits eighth and to keep its head above water needs points at Invermay.

Cressy travels to East hoping to emulate its recent successes, but with four games remaining, third-placed East can ill-afford losses.

In a bid to avoid relegation Trevallyn and North will go for broke at North and Deloraine comes to town for Kings Meadows.

Division 2 - Teams below are waiting to pounce, so Kings Meadows Red must beat North.

It is promotion material, but if North uses its home green as it can, Red's second spot could be jeopardised.

With experience and depth in all rinks, Westbury and Scottsdale should play a close game at Scottsdale.

After tasting belated success last week, Deloraine may test home side West and with the back door slightly ajar, George Town must begin racking up wins again beginning here versus visiting Bridport.

East's ``swinging rink'' looks a tad strong for home team Kings Meadows Green, but its players must gel to produce results.

Division 3 - Midlands is home for Beauty Point. Successive wins for the visitors would make its day but it must adapt to the Campbell Town green if it wants success.

Longford's synthetic is completed and Invermay could be the first team to trial it.

If this is the case it must familiarise itself quickly - Longford is still in contention and will seize every opportunity.

Little separates them and top spot is the inducement, so a win for either Launceston or Exeter at Exeter will be well deserved.

George Town must recapture its previous form to beat visiting West and if Riverside can make full use of its home advantage, it may take points again from Ravenswood.

Division 4 - From current ladder positions, Bridport, Scottsdale and Cressy appear too strong for North, George Town and Exeter.

Deloraine must be hoping for full rinks at Lilydale and Launceston Blue cannot afford another loss at Kings Meadows.
