EDDIE Ockenden has been named for the fourth time to the International Hockey Federation All-Stars, Hockey Tasmania announced yesterday.
Ockenden is joined in this team by his Kookaburra teammates Jamie Dwyer, six times All-Star and world player of the year for 2011, and 2011 world young player of the year and first time All-Star Matthew Swann.
The All-Star teams are voted for by the public, and this naming is recognition of an outstanding year for Ockenden that included a fourth consecutive Champions Trophy win in New Zealand, an Oceania Cup/Olympic Qualifier victory in his home town of Hobart, the award for the Australian Hockey League and Kookaburra player of the year and recent naming in the Kookaburra squad for the London Olympics.
Hockey Tasmania chief executive Mark Purcell said Hockey Tasmania could not be more proud of Ockenden's achievements and believed that the latest accolade was due recognition of someone who was an outstanding hockey contributor, both for Tasmania and Australia.
Ockenden's personal achievements come on top of recent individual recognition for a number of Tasmanians, with Tim Deavin and Luke Doerner also named to the Kookaburras' Olympic squad and the recognition of officials with Ken Read, Minka Woolley and Peri Buckley appointed to positions at the Olympic Games.
