TOP pacer Our Sir Jeckyl has chalked up a lot more seconds than wins this season but gets the chance to improve the ratio in the Governor's Cup in Hobart on Sunday night.
With 29 career wins to his credit, connections could never be disappointed with the seven-year-old but his list of near-misses at recent starts must be frustrating.
Since resuming in October, Our Sir Jeckyl has finished second in the Launceston Mile, City Of Devonport Quality, City Of Launceston Cup, Hobart Cup and a free-for-all.
The Tony Petersen-trained gelding's lone win came in another free-for-all at Mowbray in November.
Our Sir Jeckyl's latest run was in the $20,000 Hobart Cup final on January 8 when he came off a 20-metre handicap and failed by only a head to run down Waiona who started off 10m.
The first two placegetters made their runs together from the rear of the field and there were no excuses for Our Sir Jeckyl, as Waiona gave him a perfect cart into the race.
However, Our Sir Jeckyl meets Waiona on 10m better terms this week, under free-for-all conditions, and has a slightly better barrier draw.
Although, on current form, the two horses look likely to fill the quinella again, punters will have a healthy respect for last season's Easter Cup winner Kalypson Kid who will be having his fifth run after a spell.
The Grant Hodges-trained eight-year-old was just in front of Our Sir Jeckyl when they finished seventh and eighth respectively in the recent Tasmania Cup.
Hodges won the Governor's Cup last year with Yushchenko Leis.
