BRIGHTON trainer Nathan Ford has had a high opinion of former Victorian pacer Glory Jasper since he won his first Tasmanian start by almost 30 metres.
Although it was only a C0/C1 restricted race, Glory Jasper rated 2:01.4 for 2090 metres, suggesting he should be capable of working through the classes.
His advancement has not been quite as fast as Ford might have expected, but he has won another three races since and gets the chance to score his most important win in today's New Norfolk Pacing Cup.
The six-year-old has drawn the pole in the 2900m standing start race and is $3.50 favourite in leading bookmaker Robin Wilson's early market.
After scoring an impressive win over Quastor Centurion at Mowbray 11 days ago, Glory Jasper flew home when second to top mare Benediction in Sunday night's Northern Tasmanian Light Harness Association Cup.
Both those races were also standing starts.
Ford races Glory Jasper himself, having bought the gelding from Victorian trainer Rita Burnett for an undisclosed price.
