HOBART Thousand runner-up Rewind raced into Devonport Cup favouritism after a runaway win in his heat yesterday.
The Bracknell-trained greyhound won his heat by seven lengths in the fastest time of 25.64.
He later drew perfectly in box 8 for next Tuesday's final.
Rewind is owned and trained by Maurie Strickland and the Devonport Cup would be some compensation for him after being beaten by a nose in last month's Hobart Thousand.
The North-West Greyhound Racing Club was delighted with the quality of greyhounds who made it through to next week's final.
Apart from Rewind, the state's other classy performer Damek qualified after a gutsy win in heat 2.
Damek was crowded and squeezed out on the home turn, but came again to win by nearly two lengths.
Broadmarsh trainer Keith Nicholls will have two finalists next week following the heat wins of Portrait Ignites and Pretty In Blue, while Debbie Cannan has the chance to make it two Devonport Cups in a row after qualifying with Katsidis.
Cannan won last year with St Pierre, with the greyhound going on to win the Australian Cup.
The nation's top trainer Graeme Bate will be represented by red box runner Classy Maldini.
Classy Maldini is the Warrugal 400-metre record holder and just held on in heat 3.
