Spencer shows the way at Ulverstone

PORT Sorrell professional Darren Spencer yesterday shot a five-under par 67 to win the Ulverstone Pro-Am.

Spencer who has had a solid week on the circuit with several top 10 finishes got all components of his game together at Ulverstone yesterday.

``I haven't been holeing anything all week, but today I couldn't miss,'' said Spencer.

Spencer had a hot start to the round with birdies on three of the first four holes before dropping shots on seven and eight to turn at one-under par.

``In all my years of playing here I have never been able to hit the seventh and eighth fairways and today was no different,'' Spencer said.

The back nine was where Spencer came to play, Spencer made birdie Leg 1on 10, 15, 16 and 18 to finish the back nine with a four-under 32.

OneAsia players Craig Hancock and Kalem Richardson were the next best in the field. Hancock claimed second with a fine two-under par 70 and Richardson rounded out the podium with a one-under 71.

The Tasmanian swing of Southern Tour continues today with the Stanley Seaview Inn Pro-Am.

There are eight events on the Tasmanian Pro-Am schedule in 2012 with prizemoney in excess of $50,000.
