Milne jumps into title contention

Competitors in the girls' and boys' under- 16 championship were put through their paces in the hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m yesterday and will tackle the long jump, javelin and 800m today.

After breaking the Northern high jump record with a 1.72m jump, Natalie Milne is leading the field on 2739 points, followed by Brittany Knee (2685) and Ebony Hateley (2463).

Todd Hodgetts set a new State record in the shot put with a throw of 16.73m and is leading on 1471 ahead of Alex Rosetto (1287) and Josh Harris (1227).

In the under-18 men's event, Bowie Quillerat finished the day with 1768 points after completing the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m.

He will finish the hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m today.
