One of Tasmania's most reliable batsman and successful captains, Dan Marsh, has announced his retirement from first-class cricket.
Marsh's final match will be the final Sheffield Shield match of the season against Victoria, which started in Melbourne today.
After a career spanning 17 seasons, Marsh led the Tigers to their their first Pura Cup title in 2006-07.
Marsh enjoyed a productive 2007-08, during which time he officially replaced Test captain Ricky Ponting as skipper and scored 758 first-class runs at an average of 54.14 and earned spots in the Australian Cricketers'
Association all-star teams in both four-day and one-day formats.
The Tigers also captured their second domestic one-day title under his captaincy the same year.
The 2009-10 season saw Marsh pass Michael Di Venuto as the most capped player for Tasmania in domestic one-day cricket and also add a fourth domestic cricket trophy to his list of achievements after Tasmania won the Ford Ranger Cup in February.
The 36-year-old said he had made the decision lightly and after much deliberation has decided to retire from first-class cricket.
