Jackson still has Olympic dream

05 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
LUKE Jackson hasn't lost sight of his Olympic dream despite a protest from his opponent.

The 60kg Hobart boxer defeated New South Wales fighter George Kambosas in the elite men's division of the Australian amateur boxing championships, in Hobart, on Friday.

However, Kambosas protested after the bout because of low-blow injury gained during the fight.

Kambosas won the protest which took the fight to a draw.

Jackson _ the clear favourite to take both the Australian championship and then the Oceania title _ won on countback.

Jackson said the protest hadn't shaken him up ahead of today's final and he was still determined to take the title.

``I won the fight clearly,'' he said yesterday.

``I hit him on the belt line and he went down and tried to claim it as a foul because he knew he was losing.''

Before the protest Jackson had won the fight 12-10.

The protest took the bout to a draw at 16-16 before it went to countback.

Jackson will fight in the final about 1pm.

If he wins, he will take the Australian title and progress to the Oceania championships.

``I think I should win it,'' he said.

``(But) you never really know until you get in there really, so I'll just have to wait and see.''
