Hunt for Casino City's lost silverware

THE only Launceston team ever to win a National Basketball League premiership needs help. The Launceston Casino City team that featured in the 1981 NBL grand final has lost its premiership silverware including the championship cup and banner. The team, that took part in the NBL for two years before being axed, beat rival Nunawading for the title. Led by coach Max Tike, they boasted two- time Olympian Ian Davies and Launceston basketball identity Dean Draper. The Northern Tasmanian Basketball Association is now trying to set up a display at the Elphin Sports Centre, but is missing some vital pieces of memorabilia. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the cup and banner are asked to contact Brett Smith on 0418 534 280, or alternatively can drop off either item anonymously at the Elphin Sports Centre. - LAURA OLDFIELD
