SATURDAY'S annual Tasmanian Government Thousands Eric Reece Memorial was one for the frontmarkers, with Matthew Gurr's fifth place off 26 seconds the best performance by a backmarker.
Laurence O'Toole snr (off 14 seconds) beat Gerald Oakley (17 seconds) and Matthew Arnold (10 seconds) as Wayne Brown was unable to take full advantage of his eight-second handicap.
Gurr's fellow backmarkers Dale Beams (29 seconds) and Joe Rattray (27 seconds) finished eighth and ninth.
Glen and Josh Bakes (10 seconds) won the George Foster Memorial double-handed sawing handicap from Stefan Kertesz and Andrew Slater (11 seconds) and Kelly Oakley and Stuart Read (15 seconds).
The 250mm standing handicap went to Henry Maine (16 seconds) from Matthew Arnold (nine seconds).
Flowery Gully couple Dale and Amanda Beams took just 13.6 seconds to saw through their 450-millimetre block to claim the Jack and Jill Tasmanian championship, beating David Foster and Sheila Rumley.
Dale backed that performance up with a win in the 375-millimetre standing Harry Mulcahy Memorial Tasmanian championship in 28.7 seconds, from Joe Rattray and Matthew Gurr.
His son Daniel made it a Beams-fest, claiming second in the Don Langdon junior underhand championship behind Kody Steers.
